Founder, The Code Collective

I have lived this work from every angle. I started in the classroom as a Pre-K and first grade teacher, learning how children crack the code of reading one student at a time. I grew into coaching teachers, then into school and network leadership, building systems across the full K–12 arc.

Each seat taught me something the next one required. Together they gave me a rare, full-spectrum view of what it takes to build literacy systems that actually hold, from the individual child sounding out their first word to the network-wide strategy that makes that moment possible for every child.

The Code Collective was born from that journey and one unshakeable belief: every child deserves access to a literacy education that is both rigorous and rooted in who they are.

Community

Literacy injustice has roots. The anti-literacy laws that criminalized reading tell us that access to the written word has always been contested; the families who raise our students carry literacy stories that matter. We partner with teachers and leaders to bring families into the work, honor parents as a child's first educator, and build a culture where home and school are in relationship, not isolation.

Care

Care is not a feeling; it is an action. We show what we care about by the way we show up: prepared, honest, and student-centered in every decision we make. We say the hard thing when it needs to be said. We celebrate what is working and we name what is not. We push educators to be better because we believe they can be, and we hold students at the center of everything; not as an aspiration, but as a practice.

Collaboration

Teaching is both an art and a science; a practice that is always evolving. We hold that truth sacred. The strongest educators are also the most curious ones: open to each other's ideas, close to the research, and willing to be changed by what they learn. We grow together, question together, and build something better because we stayed in the room with each other.

Capacity

Educators deserve to be trusted with knowledge. We close the gap between theory and practice by putting powerful tools and research directly in the hands of teachers and leaders. Not to tell them what to do; but to build the confidence and independence to own the work themselves. We measure our success not by how much we are needed, but by how little we are.
